Who we are

Independent cinema gear tests, shot by us

Cinemagraph Collection exists because most "best cinema camera" lists online are written by people who have never touched the body. We buy our own cameras and glass, shoot real projects on them, measure the results and publish what we find.

Our story

Cinemagraph Collection started in 2021 as a working cinematographer's spreadsheet. Two bodies, three lenses and a very long weekend of shooting the same scene on all of them. The conclusion was that the expensive camera was not always the better one — and that almost nobody was publishing that finding with evidence.

Today we run a small test desk of working DPs, ACs and colourists. We cover the kit that actually ends up on set in the United States: full-frame and compact cinema bodies, 4K video cameras, anamorphic and PL-mount glass, gimbals, fluid heads, sliders, matte boxes and follow focus systems. We are funded entirely by Amazon affiliate commissions and display advertising — which means the only thing keeping this site alive is that you trust what you read here.

What makes us different

  • We buy what we test. Full US retail price, no brand-supplied bodies we get to keep.
  • Measured, not vibes. Dynamic range, rolling shutter, lens breathing and distortion are measured against reference charts — then judged on real footage.
  • Real shoots. Seven weeks on average, including at least two paid projects and a full post-production pass.
  • Commission-blind scoring. Affiliate rates are never an input. Some of our winners pay us nothing.
  • Visible corrections. Errors get a dated note at the top of the page, never a silent edit.

How we make money

Cinemagraph Collection is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click a link and buy, Amazon pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. That is it — no brand sponsorships of reviews, no paid placements in comparison tables, no "featured partner" tiers. Read the full detail on our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions pages.

Who this site is for

Freelance filmmakers, indie producers, wedding and commercial shooters, documentary crews and rental houses across the United States. If you are choosing a first cinema body, deciding whether to move from EF to PL glass, or working out whether a gimbal or a fluid head is the right purchase this year — that is exactly the question we write for.

What we stand for

Four rules we don't break

Test it ourselves

If we haven't shot with it, we don't rank it. Spec-sheet roundups are not reviews.

Show the method

Every score breaks into the same four sub-scores, so you can disagree with the weighting rather than the mystery.

Never sell a ranking

Brands cannot buy a position, a badge or a better score. Ever.

Retest and correct

Firmware changes how a camera performs. So do our verdicts — and we say when they do.
